Due to overcast conditions and heavy clouds in most places in the UK, we were not able to observe the Hilal in UK by any of the groups on Tuesday evening. However we have received Positive report of actual sighting (Muhaqaq Ru’ayat e Basri) from the Ministry of Awqaf in Morocco in writing. Therefore we had 29 days of the Month of Rabi ul Thani and 1st of Jumad al Ula in the United Kingdom in accordance to the SUNNAH BASED CALENDAR will be from Wednesday 13th March 2013 Insha Allah.
Saudi Arabia had 30 days of Rabi ul Thani and have also commenced the Month of Jumad al Ula from Wednesday 13th March based on the PRE CLACULATED UMM UL QURA CALENDAR.
Sighting of the Hilal For Jamad ul Ula 1434
Today (29 Rabiul Thani 1434 AH) many people from throughout UK have attempted to sight the crescent moon (Hilal) of Jamad ul Ula 1434AH after sunset. None of the groups were able to sight the Hilal, however, we have received reliable sighting reports (Muhaqaq-Ruyat-Basari) from Morocco.
Therefore, the Wifaq ul Ulama have decided that the month of Rabiul Thani 1434 AH will have 29 days and the month of Jamad Ul Ula 1434 AH will start tomorrow Wednesday 13 March 2013, Insha-Allah.

QUESTION
The hilaal was not sighted anywhere in South Africa for Rabiuth Thaani, due it being overcast. However, the age of the moon was about 34 hours. In neighbouring countries the moon was sighted and today is the 2nd Rabiuth Thaani in Zimbabwe, etc. whereas it is the 1st for us in South Africa. At the end of the 30th day, the 34 hour hilaal was quite big. Does this not indicate that today is the 2nd of the new month. Should we not accept the news from neighbouring countries to have uniformity in our Islamic calendar?
