Announcement from Wifaq Ulama Regarding Eid ul Fitr 1432/2011:

“We feel that now is the time for the Ulama to put past differences behind them and come back on the negotiating table to negotiate a formula or a criterion which is Shariah compliant/free of any doubt and unites all, irrespective of which school of thought they belong to.”

We are receiving a lot of enquiries as regards to the rumours going round about Eid Ul Fitr 1432 AH/2011.

We see it as irresponsible to entertain any rumour, hence the silence. But what we will say is that we had already announced on the 24th of August, SIX days before Eid ul Fitr that Saudi Arabia has already fixed Eid ul Fitr for the 30th of August 2011. Hilaal could not be sighted with telescopes in Saudi!

STATEMENT FROM SHEIKH SULAIMAN AND BROTHER QAMARUDDIN

I have personally called the head of the Saudi Hilal Committee just now, who has collected all the other committee reports (9 in total this month) and advised me that none of the astronomers within the committees could sight the hilal with their telescopes.

However, a few people near Riyadh who have reported following the hilal with their naked eye before sunset until the sunset and the court had accepted their claim. There Bedouins are well known to the Saudi court as "early sighters".

There were no reliable moon sighting reports from the UK or from abroad. Therefore, the Wifaqul Ulama have declared that the holy month of Ramadhan 1432 AH will complete 30 days and Eid ul-Fitr will be on Wednesday 31st August 2011, Insha-Allah
