Saudi Arabia announces a U-Turn on the day of Aashuraa (Alhamdulillah). The Wifaq ul Ulama announced date is CORRECT. Aashura is on TUESDAY.

Will the Hizb ul Ulama, Jamiat ul Ulama and its other partners follow suit?

Alhamdulillah the correct date has been announced, what now happens to the statement of Jamiat Ulama / CMC? They had announced that the moon had been sighted, and their representative in Saudi Arabia had himself phoned the the head of Saudi Supreme court to confirm the sighting, Was all of this a farce????????

It was stated by Hizb ul Ulama that

"The Minister and President of Saudi Mahkamah Ulya (High Court) Shaikh Abdurrahman Al Kulaiya personally informed our representative that 1st Muharram 1433H by Ruyah is on today Saturday 26th November 2011"

How can Moon be sighted and all of a sudden 'not be sighted'?

We congratulate the Ulama and the responsible authorties to bring the innitial wrong decidion to the attention of the Supreme Court and forcing them to change. Let us make Dua that this becomes a turning point for Saudi Hilal announcements in the future.

One of the main reasons for the U-turn is that in these months NO ANNOUNCEMENTS are made to encourage sighting, so NO ONE comes forward. the Ummul Qura calendar is blindly followed, and it was based on this calendar which is based on CALCULATION, that Hizb ul Ulama and its partners announced the commencement of Muharram.

Is it now not the time the Ulama e Kiram and the leaders of the communities to meet and end this farcical situation? The responsible people should think and worry: Why should one knowingly spoil the Ibaadaat of others?

Ashoura on Tuesday

JEDDAH – Sheikh Abdul Aziz Bin Abdullah Aal Al-Sheikh, Grand Mufti of the Kingdom, has said the day of fasting for Ashoura, Muharram 10, falls on Tuesday, Dec. 6. Sheikh Aal Al-Sheikh called this a way out of arguments that the crescent was not sighted to mark the beginning of Muharram. He said Saturday therefore was the last day of Dhul Hijjah and Sunday the first of Muharram. Hence, the 9th and 10th of Muharram – days on which Muslims are recommended to fast – fall on Monday (Dec. 5) and Tuesday (Dec. 6) respectively. — Okaz/SG __
