British Muslims react to Saudi hikes visa fees

01st of December 2016 Update:
Although there is no official confirmation from Saudi Media or any official Saudi Government channels, Wifaqul Ulama cautisly welcomes the news being circulated worldwide that the 2000 SAR Umrah Visa Fees for those offering first Umrah in an (Islamic) Year has been waived. Those repeating the Umrah in the same Hijrah year will be charged. Before the introduction of (additional) 2000 SAR Umrah Fees, there was MOFA fees for Umrah Visas which remain in place.
This statement is being issued on the 17th of October 2016 and supersedes all previous statements on the subject. The strategy on the best way to proceed with highlighting this issue is being formulated by (Shaykh) Suliman Gani in consultation with other Ulama. The plan will be disclosed later, in the meantime please show your support to the petition.

بدءا، يسعدنا أن ننقل إليكم عبارات الشكر والامتنان من البريطانيين المسلمين، لخادم الحرمين الشريفين صاحب السمو سلمان بن عبد العزيز آل سعود وإلى جميع المعنيين في المملكة العربية السعودية باستضافة واستقبال الحجاج البريطانيين الذين يزورون المملكة خلال فترة العمرة والحج
فقد كان من دواعي سرورنا، أن نستفيد من حسن ضيافتكم خلال زيارتنا إلى الأراضي المقدسة. يشهد تنظيم وإدارة الحج تحسّنا مطردا عاما بعد عام، ونحن ندعو الله أن يجازيكم خير الجزاء
إنّنا نكتب إليكم لنعبّر عن مشاعر البريطانيين المسلمين بشأن ارتفاع رسوم الحج والعمرة، ونطلب منكم نقل شكوانا هذه إلى خادم الحرمين الشريفين صاحب السمو سلمان بن عبد العزيز آل سعود بصفتكم الرسمية الخاصة بكم ونحن نتعهّد إليكم عن طريق هذه الرسالة نيابة عن ثلاثة ملايين من المسلمين في هذا البلد.
هناك غموض كبير حول ارتفاع رسوم الفيزا لكلّ من العمرة والحج، ذلك أنّ المسلمين البريطانيين بعد مراجعة المبالغ الدقيقة وانهيار رسوم الفيزا وردا على ما يتردد في وسائل الإعلام، نحن في حالة قلق بسبب ارتفاع رسوم الفيزا. وبذلك وضعت قيود كبيرة في طريق أولئك الذين يرغبون في زيارة الحرمين الشريفين فيثبطون عن تحقيق حلم حياتهم
كما توجد مخاوف كبيرة بين المسلمين البريطانيين ونحن (الأئمة وقادة المجتمعات المحلية) لنقل همومهم

We begin by conveying the gratitude of British Muslims to you, to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques HH Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud and to all those involved in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia in hosting and accommodating the British Pilgrims visiting the Kingdom during Umrah and Hajj.
It has been a pleasure benefiting from your hospitality during our visits to the Holy Lands of Islam.
The organisation and management of Hajj has been steadily improving year after year, and we pray to Allah Azza Wa’Jal to give you the best of rewards for it.
We write to you to convey the feelings of British Muslims regarding the rise in Hajj & Umrah fees.
We request for you to please convey our concerns to the Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques HH Salman bin Abdulaziz Al Saud in your official capacity.
We entrust you with this message on behalf of 3 million Muslims in this country.
There has been confusion about the rise in VISA fees for both Umrah and Hajj. British Muslims have yet to review the exact amounts and the breakdown of VISA fees. However, reacting to what is being reported in the Media, we are anxious and concerned. We are concerned because the rise in VISA fees may put significant financial constraints in the path of those who wish to visit the Holy Mosques. It is likely that some people will be discouraged from achieving their lifetime dream of visiting Saudi Arabia.
We (as Imams and Community Leaders) are being approached by our communities on a regular basis to approach you and convey their concerns.
HH Prince Mohammed bin Nawwaf bin Abdulaziz, you are a resident of Britain and are acutely aware of the circumstances of British Muslims. We urge you to convey our concerns to the best of your abilities and ensure that our voice is heard in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia.
