Apex (NC) Muslim donates for Hurricance Matthew

Wifaqul Ulama: As-salāmu ‘alaykum wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh, Brother Ali…I am calling from England.

Ali Akhtar Khan: Wa-Alaikumus salām wa-rahmatullāhi wa-barakātuh, From England? Where did you get my number, man?

Wifaq: Your mother gave it to me. She is proud of you man so just want a quick chat. I know you don’t live in England but its a good story about Hurricane Matthew.

Ali : My mother has connections in London? Man! I didn’t know that (laughs), what can I do for you?

Wifaq: She told someone about your donation for Hurricane Matthew.  We found out so just wanted to chat with you.

Ali : I tell you what (laughing), tell your mother and it becomes an International story. I just wanted to do my little bit, that’s all. I didn’t tell anybody about it.

Wifaq: Where do you live, what do you do? Tell us a little about yourself?

Ali : I live in Apex (NC), been here for a long time and kids are born and growing up here. I also run my own business (iFixedQuick). I have been watching all the destruction caused by Hurricane Matthew, so I just wanted to do something for my neighbours and people of my state. I thought about it and decided to donate 2000 water bottles to Hurricane Shelter (Lumberton). Just dropped it off to with the National Guard.

Wifaq: What was your thinking behind this decision?

Ali : You know we are humans and that’s what binds us. Our moments of happiness, sadness and tragedy are the ones which bring us altogether.  Its just something inside of me which told me that I need to give something back to my state and its people at their time of suffering.

Wifaq: How come you didn’t want to tell anyone about this?

Ali : Well my mother told you but I think that we should do our acts of kindness for God, alone. He is the one who is going to judge us and he knows what we do.

Wifaq: But don’t you think that in the light of these incidents like the 7 year old getting beat up, Muslims should highlight actions like these?

Ali : Well my mother told you but I think that we should do our acts of kindness for God, alone. He is the one who is going to judge us and he knows what we do. Look man, times are tough for us and they are challenging. But our actions should be based upon the example of our Prophet (Peace be upon Him), he was mistreated and he was abused but he answered abuse with kindness. You know our first Lady Michelle Obama is saying “When they go low, we go high”, our Prophet demonstrated this all his life. He went high and higher and higher, he never went low!

Wifaq: Masha’Allah, good to speak to you Brother! May Allah Ta’ala bless you, your mother and your Business (Ameen). Keep up the good work.
